Programme Overview

In Tanzania, many children face difficult circumstances and limited access to proper care and education. By joining our child care program, you become part of a committed team working to provide love, support, and learning opportunities for these children. As a volunteer, your role is vital in creating safe and nurturing spaces where children can grow. You will engage with them through activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, games, and simple educational exercises designed to meet their needs. Your presence can bring joy, build confidence, and inspire hope for a brighter future.

Programme Requirements

To participate in the teaching program in Tanzania with Rafiki Interns & Volunteers Africa, applicants are expected to meet a few key requirements. These include:

  • Age: Most child care programs require volunteers to be at least 18 years old.
  • Health and Vaccinations: Volunteers often need to provide proof of good health through medical clearance forms or certificates from healthcare professionals.
  • Experience and Skills: Previous experience working with children, such as babysitting, tutoring, teaching or volunteering in similar roles can be beneficial but not always mandatory.
  • Language Proficiency: Although fluency in Swahili is not always required (as many programs offer English-speaking opportunities), having basic communication skills in English would greatly enhance your ability to interact effectively with local staff members and children.
  • Commitment and Flexibility: Volunteering requires dedication and adaptability. You should possess a willingness to work collaboratively within diverse teams while being open-minded towards different cultural practices
  • Visa Requirements: Depending on your nationality, you might need appropriate visas/permits for entering Tanzania for volunteer activities. Make sure to research visa regulations specific to your home country before planning any travel arrangements.

Duration and Location

The duration of our teaching program is flexible based on your availability and can range from several weeks up to several months. We offer placements across various regions within Tanzania including rural areas where educational resources are limited but much needed.

Living Arrangements and Accommodation

Rafiki Interns and Volunteers Africa will arrange suitable accommodation close to project locations for all volunteers. The aim is to ensure a comfortable stay while giving you the chance to experience the local way of life. Accommodation may vary but typically includes shared rooms (separated by gender), common areas for relaxing or socializing, basic cooking facilities where available, access to electricity and water (with occasional interruptions), and other essential amenities.
